Synopsis
Based on a true story, the movie chronicles the incredible journey of a group of enslaved Africans who overtake their captor's ship and attempt to return to their beloved homeland. When the ship, La Amistad, is seized, these captives are brought to the United States where they are charged with murder and await their fate in prison. An enthralling battle ensues that captures the attention of the entire nation, confronting the very foundation of the American justice system. But for the men and women on trial, it is simply a fight for the basic right of all mankind...freedom.

The fate of Africans....:((( - 4.5 out of 5  (2/29/2000)
Amistad is slave ship with full of African poor slaves..The film concerns on slavery and how they were punished, used and kicked...In Amistad slaves take over a ship then get catched so they brought to in front of judge to determine who they belong. It is about them to take over their freedom again with the help of a lawyer (Matthew),Morgan Freeman and ex-lawyer Anthony Hopkins... This is another good and emotional film from Steven Spielberg..He did a good job here to bring slavery on worlds   more >>

A golden opportunity missed. - 3.5 out of 5  (7/25/1999)
At the core of Amistad is a powerful, true story of a group of African men who fought for their freedom and whose lives hung in the balance because of it. Unfortunately, most of the attention paid to it by this film is in a roundabout, not direct, way. Unlike Spielberg's previous effort Schindler's List, or his successive one Saving Private Ryan, he regretfully chose to steer the picture away from the very real human drama and issues at stake, and instead chose to indulge in endless soliloquie   more >>

Powerful - 5 out of 5  (5/9/1999)
Amistad is a very powerful and fantasic acheivment by Director Steven Spielberg. This shall be considered his first good film on DVD (lets just try to forget about 1941). Although this film can get slow at times it still retains its drama and mood. The acting is beautiful as well as compelling. There are also some very upsifting moments. The movie does a good job at pointing out a point in history that not many people know about. Good job, Mr. Spielberg, now lets see more good DVD's from yo   more >>
